Playeum as a social enterprise reaches out to various communities across Singapore with regular events, free for the public to attend.
We believe this is essential because although play and experimentation are appropriate in the early years, such activities today, remain largely outside the main school day, out of school-hours activities and beyond the school gates. Fortunately, for our children today, this has been augmented by improved play spaces and youth provisions in the neighbourhoods. More can be done and this is where Playeum as Impresarios of Play, with the support of parents and our partners “our band of Play Bandits” stand and fill in the gap.
Playeum invests on an ongoing basis to conduct research as well as programme development to create new experiences for children. Just to name a few, Playeum has developed the Playeum Viewfinder, Playeum BoxCity and the Playeum Exquisite Columns with Chaw Chih Wen. These installations are now being optimized for schools.
Other thematic programmes include Transforming Passages, Playeum Superheroes and Art of Eric Carle. Playeum played the unique roles of:
- Artistic Directors
- Programme Developers
- Product Innovators
- Space Designers
Each experience with Playeum is fresh and always offering new possibilities. Each and every Playeum activity and venue is one-of-a-kind. This is realistic and possible because we engage the imagination of each child and the possibilities are just limitless. They are experiences to be played out and not only to be read about.
We call upon parents and our strategic institutional and corporate partners alike to join in making the paradigm shift, to move our children from:
A “CONTAINED” position >> To ‘EXPERIENCING’ >> Beyond to “CREATING”
There is a significant connection between cultural and arts production, learning, participation, regeneration and community development.
- Making links between feelings and learning enable our children to develop a deeper understanding of concepts that span traditional subject boundaries.
- We need to make affirmative responses to our children’s curiosity and nurture creativity.
