Weave, Knot and Play
This installation engages children through their passion for play and gross motor activities, but also encourages use of fine motor skills to create community work of art. The children will be tying knots with fabrics of various colours to build a web under which they can crawl. The act of weaving the various fabrics together symbolizes the notion of collaboration and co-creation towards a much greater purpose of play by children. The fabrics are bright and attractive to the children, as well as have accents of rich heritage from many cultures, and in particular South East Asia. The artistic expression explores positive outcomes when joy and happiness is achieved through play, hence creating a tapestry of harmony, peace and tolerance.
Leaf Diaries
At a time when resources were scarce, people were very creative with any material that they could find – and drawing materials were certainly a luxury for many during wartime. Gaining inspiration from Nature, Bee Aye conceptualized an activity where children can record their thoughts and feelings on leaves. Through her own artistic practice where she uses a lot of fabrics and sewing techniques, Bee Aye has adapted the activity for children where they can make their own fabric leaves and draw or write on them.
